Krystal Collins
Picture
Krystal Collins is a University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign BFA Candidate in Dance whose philosophy is rooted in a somatic approach, but also emphasizes the necessity of feeling specific sensations and energies through the body, a fusion of Mind Body practices and ideologies of traditional African forms. As Ms. Collins says, “In many African social and early dances, you learn by watching and repeating, you are forever changing and learning. There is the idea that one is never a master, there is always a way to heighten your dancing and do better.”
She achieves her philosophy by working with breath, using repetition, and acknowledging the shared energies in a space.
